Finding the right post high school option, including college, is often a daunting task, as there are many schools and programs to choose from across the nation — even around the world.  It’s not about picking the right name of the college but whether or not it is right for the student.  A good fit is essential!

It is important for students to explore different career options, which will influence a course of study when choosing where they want to go for higher education, whether it be at a 4-year college, community college, or a trade/vocational program (like at an occupational center).

Explore Majors at CSU

On the Assist.org site, view where each of the 23 CSU campuses is located.  Click on the university to view details about the majors offered there.

Explore career options by first completing an interest inventory on the College Board website. Then, explore careers and learn the path you need to follow for that career.

Explore college options with College Board’s comprehensive college search tool.  Search a specific school or use the search tool to explore by location of the college, type of college (2 or 4 year), public, private, major, and more.  Learn about colleges and view a profile of the students who currently attend.

Naviance

LAUSD students have free access to Naviance, a comprehensive online college and career portal available for grades 8 through 12.  It helps students identify their strengths, discover careers, and prepare for post-secondary programs.  Students have the opportunity to complete multiple grade level tasks within the Naviance platform that support college awareness, eligibility and preparedness.

College Week Live – The World’s Largest College Fair

Visit College Week Life for FREE online virtual tours of colleges and universities around the world.  Visit the site for other valuable college admissions information, including online workshops on topics such as applying to college, financial aid, scholarship information, and more!

The Princeton Review 

The Princeton Review provides free on-line college and career exploration tools.  It is a comprehensive web site for students and parents, providing students with the opportunity to take a free interest inventory which then matches their interests with appropriate colleges.

Student can begin to explore different colleges and universities.  They can learn admission requirements, average GPA’s, and average SAT/ACT scores for incoming freshmen at the colleges.

Students can also find information on SAT/ACT preparation.  A free SAT Online Demo is available to students.  The site also provides in depth financial aid & scholarship information with a free on-line scholarship search.
